Hello everyone,

Should junk food be banned from schools?

Everyone should write an original opinion and respond to the idea of at least one other student.  Think also of the different perspectives of the people that might be affected by this decision.

All opinions should be included as comments to this post and should be completed by the end of the week.

So, who will lead this week's discussion to be summarized in class next Monday?

  1. From the point of view of the parents, junk food should be banned from schools. Junk food diet is a major cause to serious health problems. The best illustration of this is a documentary called “Super-size Me”. In it, the filmmaker, a health-conscious and physically fit young man, goes on a month-long diet of McDonald’s for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It is evident that he feels physically sick, put on a lot lf weight and feels psychologically depressed. In order to protect the children’s healthy growth, parents should hope to keep them far away from junk food.

From the whole society’s perspective, junk food should be banned from school. Studies have shown that eating junk food on a regular basis can easily lead to obesity and heart disease. And when increasing numbers of people develop these kinds of illnesses, they become a burden on the healthcare system, who are also unable to be productive members of society.

As for students, they would argue that junk food should not be banned from school. Most importantly, because fast food restaurants are convenient, where the seats are comfortable, the place is clean and service is efficient, the students prefer to eat there. Besides, they usually do not have a common knowledge of nutrition and just want a fast meal in a happy atmosphere.

  2. Nowadays, people can see junk foods everywhere. In my point of view, junk food should be banned from school, because a school is where one gain knowledge about basic principles, such as nutrition. Teacher told the students what is healthy and then school offers unhealthy foods is awful. This sends a bad message and students will use that as justification for junk foods.

To a student, junk food is easy to get and always delicious. It is convenient to have it as lunch or dinner. But parents will hold an opposite view, because junk food is bad for student. Moreover, junk food not only can be a cause of some diseases but also make students become fat. From school’s perspective, they may not agree with that. They know junk food is unhealthy, but to provide junk food is much easier than healthy food. If schools can not sale junk food then they need canteens to sale some noodles and breads. This will increase the costs.

On balance, I felt that school should ban on junk food.

  4. In recent years, the junk food has become a hot word that people usually discussed. Many schools built the fast food restaurant in the campus. In my opinion, the school should take the junk food away in the campus.

Obviously, the junk food is bad for health, but as it was convenient and the general taste, it’s still popular in young people especially the students. It was cheap to make, then the junk food restaurant increased rapidly. The junk food has much fat, salt and sugar, but few nutrients. As the young people, they need much more nutrition from the daily’s eating; most junk food has food additives that it looks and tastes better, or can be kept for a long time. Future more, eating much fried food would lead people to some diseases and it has the bad impact on the intelligence development about children.
As far as I concerned, the school should be open more restaurants in the campus which are good for health, and what’s more improve the service efficiency that make people feel satisfied.

In conclusion, the junk food should be banned from school is demanded. Not only for the students’ healthy, but also make a better state for their study learning.

  5. In the recent years, whether the junk food should be banned from school has aroused the shared concern of society in UK. No doubt, junk food is harmful to our health, fat intake should be limited. But, this topic meanings funk food should disappear or not, i think "presence is valuable ".
Mamie said: "Studies have shown that eating junk food on a regular basis can easily lead to obesity and heart disease". i agree with her,but we can see " regular basis " is very important in this sentence. junk food just bring much convinent to our life, sometimes we must choose fast food for lunch, because we do not have enough time. For example, in the university, we can see the time table, from monday to friday we just have one hour for lunch, if you go to canteen maybe a lot of people in there, you must wait a long time.
So i think junk food should not be banned, we just need control ourselves do not eat too much.

  7. Should junk food be banned from schools?

The answer is yes! Junk food is easy to prepare and tastes good but is high in calories having little nutritional value. This means these foods are filled with harmful carbohydrates, cholesterol and fats. As a result, junk food can harmful your body balance system and cholesterol are known to cause heart diseases and high blood pressure. On the other hand, the students are necessary to absorb enough vitamins and minerals that immunity from diseases and get good health. Consequently, why the school can’t build a large dining hall or restaurants in the campus? That provides more health food for students. In my point of view, students prefer eat health food rather than junk food even they are very convenience. Moreover I don’t think junk food cost less money compare with the health meal. For example: House special rice (include roast duck, barbecued pork, vegetables and soup) it only cost 5 pound in the Chinese restaurants. In conclude, I totally argued with Charlotte and Elaine, the junk food should be banned from school.

  9. I can hardly agreed with the view of Ivan’s in some extend. It seems some reasonable that existence indicates value, however, there were many things existence before, while they have less value and almost disappear now, for instance, walkman, videocassette, typewriter and etc. In my opinion, if the junk food would be wanted to existent they should be changed and improved, in that case, it should not be called junk food it should be called health fast food.

From the above discussion we can see that most of people have already realise that junk food is lack of nutrition, it will cause many risks to our health, and it also produce many waste to pollute our environment. However, some times we also have to eat junk food, as Ivan said, junk food can bring much convenience to our life, it can save much time for us and also, as Elaine said, it is very cheap. For these reasons, we can still see the junk food in our campus. If we want to keep these good points that junk food bring to us, and delete the evil risk it carries, the junk food should be changed to be more nutritious and good to our health meanwhile still delicious, less expensive and easy available.

So, in conclusion, junk food need to be changed and improved to be more nutritious, and still keep the good points it already have, otherwise, they should be banned from schools.

  10. Personally, I like Amy’s opinion “The junk food should be updated to be more nutritious and good for people’s health.” Actually, in China, this special target market has been captured by some creative businessmen. Some national or local Chinese fast food restaurants, which can provide a well-balanced and delicious diet, are very popular with the public.

  11. We all know junk food bring us so much harmful effect and it would affect our health. However, I don’t think school need to ban junk food.

As Mamie said, nowadays fast food restaurants are convenient. Even if school stop providing junk food, students are still easy to get junk food outside the school. In my opinion, teaching children to apart from unhealthy food is the key point. After well-education, students understand eating junk food is harmful. Then, they will spontaneously reject food which is low in nutritional value.

Furthermore, supposing that school keep students under strict control on junk food, it may occur a reaction. Students may want to try junk food out of curiosity. Thus, they still buying snacks after school.

To sum up, banning junk food in school is not an utterly way to avoid student eating unhealthy food. The best way to protect them is to educate them.

  12. I did not give much thoughts about this situation before, but there is no doubt that junk food is bad for organism.
First of all, in this case we should talk about school, about schoolboys and schoolgirls. Unquestionably, school cafeterias must not provide and sell junk food for children. In my point of view, they have to create some kind of system, for example, every day give to children of full value lunch and parents have to pay every month for it, but it does not mean that it will cost millions. Also parents will not bother about their child.
As regards the students, they are adults, they have to understand how junk food can be harmful for health. It is their own choice. However some of the students prefer to it fast foods, because of different reasons, for instance maybe they do not have enough time. As a result, fast food everywhere, it just depends on person eat it or not.

  13. There are sevaral serious long-time arguments between customers and companys. One of them is junk food arguments. Some fastfood companies like KFC and Mcdonald insist that they use good materials such as oil without trans fatty acid, clean meats. soda companies like coca cola also present less harmful sodas for example, diet cola. On the other hand, customers like parents don't want that their children eat fastfoods because fastfoods are just high caloried and low nutrious.
From this arguments, I wonder how to differentiate between junkfoods and others.

In my opinion, I agree with Ivna's opinion partly. In addition, there are no clear standards to seperate between junkfoods and general foods. Most of people simply regard junkfood as "fastfood, soda and some instant foods"
    For example,
    mcdonald hamburger : no,
    handmade hamburger : ?
    cola : no, diet cola : ?,
fried potato : no, fish and chips : ?,
fried chicken : no, barbecued chicken : ?
    (also, very harmful)

It is very difficult and rather consuming to make clear standards for banning junkfoods from schools.

  14. It is thought that junk food should be remove from schools, whereas other people think that no problem if the schools provide this kind of food.

I personally agree with that, junk food served every day in school canteens must end, because this food it has bad quality and it is effects the health of our children. For example, if kids have crisps, fizzy drinks and sweets into school, they would not eat any healthy food at home because they are probably full and maybe in future they become ill.

All in all,the government should take responsibility to remove junk food from schoolto save our children. Also this is an area where the Schools should offer a proper balance in what foods are available and supplied to students.

  15. I'm totally agree with Amy and Ivan... Children love fast food, because it's very tasty while parents worry about their health. At the same time manufacturers think of how to produce more and more , how to reduce expenses and where else to deliver their products ( I think there is only one unique place without fast food,it is army)

I think that fast food should be banned from schools. BUT in spite of the fact that the fast food brings a lot of harm for health as it was mentioned above, we can't exclude it from our daily life. It is impossible. Until there will be no substitute to fast food people will use it. It's very cheap, very convenient and it's everywhere. So children can buy fast food not only at school but also behind its collars.

There are two main points that can help. The first thing is improvement! As Amy has mentioned earlier, it is necessary to make fast food more healthy. Secondly, it's personal control or parent's control. It is necessary to limit fast food consumption.

Although I think that fast food should be banned from schools, I still think that it's not a solution to this problem.

  18. Most people think junk food should be banned from schools. However, I have another perspective about this.
Obviously, as most of the classmates said, junk food is harmful for health. It is lack of nutrition. In addition, some of junk food might be in bad quality. Nevertheless, it is not the reason to ban junk food from school. Nowadays, adults need to work more. Some people in the modern city have to work without stop. For them, the junk food may not be the best choice, because they need the convenience of junk food. It does not matter how bad it is. It is the same situation as children’s. Therefore, junk food should not be the thing people blame on.
For my point of view, I think educating children to realize how important the balance nutrition is the most indispensable thing. Of course, as Amy said, we can improve junk food in their nutrition. However, there is not an only unhealthy food in the world. No matter what will be banned, children can easily pick up other harmful products. Consequently, it is more important to let children know the knowledge of balance nutrition than to ban the junk food.

  19. I agree with the philip 's view.I think kids deserve to eat junk food sometimes and should be allowed to indulge occasionally, parents do. Besides, the answer to everything is not always just ban it. How can they learn to limit themselves or make good decisions about food if they are never given a choice. I think banning it would just make them want it more, kinda like wanting to do everything your parents tell you not to do.

  20. I agree with most people#s view that children love junk food because it feels so satisfying eating them. however, how serious this issue is has nothing to do with student's perspective. pne of the main reasons why the need to receive education is to help them make better decision by becoming more rational and having more knowledge on aspects of life.

Firstly, junk food has no nutrition at all, apart from sugar fat and calories, especially for students who are still growing physically, it is causing more and more obesities is every country around the world. this is a decision that the adults need to make for them students and children.

secondly, the supply of junk food in school is immoral, i think from a business point of view they are only offered because the cost is a lot less than nutritious diets, but at the expense of next generations's health.therefore, it is something to be banned for sure!!

  21. I think the junk food banned from schools has two ways to explained.First of all is the age problem. So many people said in the prime school junk food need to be banned from schools, because all of that school students are in the growing age, the elements in the junk food is not conducive to the child's healthy growth . In other side,if the environment change to the university students. The junk food can not prevent in the shop for sale. The students in the university have the independent spending power and the sale machines are widely setting everywhere. So just they like whatever they want to eat nobody can stop them. However the junk food is one important parts of their costs, because with their free time junk food become a new way to solve the boring time .Such adults have the fat problem,i think if increase the junk food price may be can prevent some buyers ,because it is the basic area to stop people eat a lot of junk food.

  22. Junk food is another term used for unhealthy food . It is not recommended to us as children by our parents and teachers.

Junk food should be abolished from the schools for numerous reasons.

    1. it may be becoming fastest growng way of reducing boredom but it makes the body weaker as we grow older. people older then us no a days are more healthier and immune to physical recovery from disease.

2.Junk food gives us a bad habit of eating all the time. we eat even during the time our stomach needs time to digest our food. we are making our indigestion organs grow older in comparision to other parts of the body.

3.It is normal for the a child to disobey their elders if suggested to eat on time and eat proerly. we start realizing when we have stomach disorders and our doctor tells us to stop eating junk food.

In order to ban the junk food,we as students should be aware of the side effects. schools should perfer healthy food rather than just sell the junk food to earn profits and save time .parents normally dont have time or they dont make time for small children to make them breakfast and lunch. habits are made prominent
    when siblings are young.

Therefore like jamie oliver the famous cheif of briton, we all should all be procative advertising more enthusiastically for banning the junk food. parents should take part in promtion of healthy food in schools and colleges. they sholud also help in desiging campaigns when big firms organize ads and discussions.
